UNLV Veterans Service and the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) have joined together in a collaborative effort to assist Veteran-students in making a smooth transition to college life with a view to academic and vocational success.

You are the most important piece of your personal and health goals puzzle. In order to meet these challenges the Veterans Affairs Administration has created many informative and technology tools to help you reach those goals.

Goal 1: Get an eBenefits Premium Account

Goal 3: Set an appointment with a Vets Success on Campus Counselor at the Military and Veteran Services Center, UNLV for concerns/application of many benefit programs that the VA offers

VetSuccess Counselor on Campus can help you:

  • Manage your education benefits
  • Explore vocations and select a suitable major / career
  • Elect your healthcare benefits with Veterans Healthcare Administration
  • Access, understand and apply for VA benefits (e.g., Disability Compensation, Life Insurance, Education, Home Loan Guaranty, and Vocational Rehabilitation)
  • Get referrals for medical and mental health care
  • Get referrals for readjustment counseling services for eligible Veterans and their families
  • Coordinate with school faculty/staff to provide Veteran-specific services (e.g., VA Certifying Official, Career Center, Student Disabilities Services, Counseling Center)
  • Find job placement assistance and coordinate with Local Veterans’ Employment Representatives (LVER) and Disabled Veterans’ Outreach Programs (DVOP)
  • Locate community and other resources

Working with Vet Centers

UNLV and the VA are also working together with Vet Center personnel. Services are targeted toward adjustment needs of Veterans.
Services may include:
  • Professional counseling
  • Community education
  • Outreach
  • Linking Veterans to other community agencies
There is help at the VA to help Veterans make positive lifestyle and healthy behavior changes. The Health Behaviors Preventive Care Program is designed so that they can receive:
• Comprehensive health education and information
• Clinical preventive services
• Coaching and resources in health behavior change
• Support to help manage your health
