Ms. Isabel Duff was selected as the Director of VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System (VASNHS) on September 23, 2013. Ms. Duff was the acting Director for VASNHS since May 2013 after previous Director John Bright retired. Prior to joining us, Ms. Duff was the full-time Director for the VA Long Beach Healthcare System since November 2008.
Before leading the Long Beach Healthcare System, she held the position of Associate Director, Patient Care Services/Nurse Executive of VA Long Beach Healthcare System. Prior to joining VA Long Beach, Ms. Duff served as the Geriatrics Service Line Manager and Nurse Executive for Northern Arizona VA Healthcare System in Prescott, Arizona. As Associate Director VA Long Beach, Ms. Duff provided leadership for direct patient care and support in addition to leadership for nursing.
Ms. Duff continues to be active at VISN and national levels in many capacities. She has served as Co-Chair of the National Advanced Practice Nurse Advisory Group, National VA Nurse Leadership Development and Planning Committee, National Nurse Professional Standards Board Certification Task Group and as a mentor for the Executive Career Field Program. She is recently appointed to the VHA Committee for the Employment and Advancement of Women which reports to the VHA Diversity Advisory Board. She is a member of VISN 22’s Network Cultural Transformation Board, Network Executive Board and the Las Vegas Hospital Planning and Design Team.
Ms. Duff has served in many positions with increasing complexity including Salt Lake City, Livermore and Tampa VAMCs. She previously served as Assistant Chief, Medicine and Primary Care/Associate Chief Nurse at Southern Arizona VA Healthcare System as Cardiothoracic Clinical Nurse Specialist in Tucson, Arizona. During her tenure in VISN 18, she served on the VISN Geriatrics Committee, Co-Chaired the Managed Care Committee and on the Project, Design and Implementation Committee for the Ambulatory Care Addition for Southern Arizona VA Healthcare System.
Ms. Duff received BSN and MS degrees from the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona. In addition, she has received numerous certifications in demonstration of her clinical and administrative expertise. “I have had an incredible career and so many opportunities in my career with VA and feel extremely proud and privileged to support VASNHS as your Director”, said Ms. Duff.
